Wellington’s Housing Crisis

Wellington’s Housing Crisis
This series raises awareness about Wellington City's housing crisis. Space is not being utilised which I demonstrated through photographing abandoned infrastructure. The Wellington Council must direct revenue towards reinvesting in critical infrastructure to solve this problem. For example, recently Wellington University decided to purchase the abandoned McClean Flats on the Terrace. They have opted to bowl it down to create a pathway instead of using the space to solve the issue of limited student housing. Wellington's lack of housing is allowing landlords to significantly increase rental prices. Over the last 15 years, rental prices have risen by 80% due to housing demand. This is causing lower income residents to be displaced and people to live in poor living conditions at a high price. Therefore, photographing these unused spaces will hopefully encourage the Government to capitalise on these missed opportunities to improve Wellington's housing crisis.
